सार

आर्टिकल (a, an, the) और निर्धारक (some, any, much, many, few, little) ध्वनि, विशिष्टता और गणनीयता के आधार पर चुने जाते हैं।

मुख्य बिंदु

व्यंजन ध्वनि से पहले "a", स्वर ध्वनि से पहले "an": a university, an hour, an MLA।
विशिष्ट, पहले बताई गई या अद्वितीय चीज़ के लिए "the" (the Sun)।
अतिशयवाचक और क्रमसूचक के साथ "the": the best, the first।
सामान्य बहुवचन या अगणनीय संज्ञाओं के साथ कोई आर्टिकल नहीं: "Books are useful."
Many/few गणनीय संज्ञाओं के साथ; much/little अगणनीय संज्ञाओं के साथ।

व्याख्या

"A few" = कुछ (सकारात्मक); "few" = लगभग नहीं (नकारात्मक); यही "a little" और "little" पर लागू है।
नदियों, महासागरों, पर्वत-श्रेणियों और समाचार-पत्रों के साथ "the"; अकेले पर्वतों और अधिकांश देशों के साथ नहीं।
भोजन, खेलों और भाषाओं के नाम के साथ सामान्यतः कोई आर्टिकल नहीं आता।
Some सकारात्मक वाक्यों और प्रस्तावों में; any प्रश्नों और नकारात्मक वाक्यों में।

विशिष्ट नियम लगाएँ (सामंजस्य, आर्टिकल, प्रीपोज़िशन, काल)।
सुधरा हुआ वाक्य अर्थ और शैली के लिए दोबारा पढ़ें।

उदाहरण

"He is an honest man" (मूक h, स्वर ध्वनि)।
"She is a European" (ध्वनि "you")।
"I have a few friends here" (कुछ दोस्त) बनाम "I have few friends here" (लगभग नहीं)।

ग़लतियों से बचें और उन्नत बिंदु

सामान्य भूल: ध्वनि के बजाय वर्तनी से चुनना।
सामान्य भूल: सामान्य बहुवचन संज्ञाओं के साथ "the" लगाना।
सामान्य भूल: गणनीय संज्ञाओं के साथ "much"।
