Useful for: SSC CGL
BOOK-GUIDED ORIGINAL SSC MATHS PRACTICE — Simplification / BODMAS
FOUNDATION
Evaluate multiplication/division before addition/subtraction.
METHOD
Identify the quantities given, choose the exact relationship, calculate in the same unit, then check the answer against the question.
WORKED EXAMPLE 1
Evaluate 97 + 28 × 10 − 18.
Multiply first: 28×10=280; then 97+280−18=359.
WORKED EXAMPLE 2
Evaluate 31 + 16 × 16 − 19.
Multiply first: 16×16=256; then 31+256−19=268.
IMPORTANT EXCEPTION / COMMON TRAP
Operations of the same priority proceed left-to-right.
QUICK REVISION
Evaluate multiplication/division before addition/subtraction.
