BOOK-GUIDED ORIGINAL SSC MATHS PRACTICE — Remainders & Divisibility
FOUNDATION
N = divisor × quotient + remainder; 0 ≤ remainder < divisor.
METHOD
Identify the quantities given, choose the exact relationship, calculate in the same unit, then check the answer against the question.
WORKED EXAMPLE 1
What remainder is left when 627 is divided by 32?
627 = 32 × 19 + 19; hence remainder = 19.
WORKED EXAMPLE 2
What remainder is left when 1582 is divided by 22?
1582 = 22 × 71 + 20; hence remainder = 20.
IMPORTANT EXCEPTION / COMMON TRAP
Never report a remainder equal to the divisor.
QUICK REVISION
N = divisor × quotient + remainder; 0 ≤ remainder < divisor.
