BOOK-GUIDED ORIGINAL SSC MATHS PRACTICE — Linear Equations
FOUNDATION
ax + b = c implies x = (c − b)/a, for a ≠ 0.
METHOD
Identify the quantities given, choose the exact relationship, calculate in the same unit, then check the answer against the question.
WORKED EXAMPLE 1
Solve for x: 19x + 68 = 619.
Subtract 68: 19x=551. Divide by 19: x=29.
WORKED EXAMPLE 2
Solve for x: 3x + 32 = 218.
Subtract 32: 3x=186. Divide by 3: x=62.
IMPORTANT EXCEPTION / COMMON TRAP
Maintain equality when moving terms across sides.
QUICK REVISION
ax + b = c implies x = (c − b)/a, for a ≠ 0.
