BOOK-GUIDED ORIGINAL SSC MATHS PRACTICE — Discount and Marked Price
FOUNDATION
Selling price = Marked price × (100 − discount%)/100.
METHOD
Identify the quantities given, choose the exact relationship, calculate in the same unit, then check the answer against the question.
WORKED EXAMPLE 1
A product marked at ₹1800 is sold after a 20% discount. Find its selling price.
Discount = 20/100 × 1800 = ₹360. SP = 1800 − 360 = ₹1440.
WORKED EXAMPLE 2
A product marked at ₹7400 is sold after a 15% discount. Find its selling price.
Discount = 15/100 × 7400 = ₹1110. SP = 7400 − 1110 = ₹6290.
IMPORTANT EXCEPTION / COMMON TRAP
Discount is calculated on marked price, not cost price.
QUICK REVISION
Selling price = Marked price × (100 − discount%)/100.
