जैव-प्रौद्योगिकी कृषि, स्वास्थ्य और उद्योग के लिए जीवित प्रणालियों और आणविक साधनों का प्रयोग करती है; भारत में GM फ़सलों का नियमन सावधानी से होता है।

• पुनर्योगज DNA प्रौद्योगिकी प्रतिबंधन एंज़ाइमों और लाइगेज़ की मदद से अलग-अलग स्रोतों के DNA को जोड़ती है।
• PCR DNA की थोड़ी मात्रा को कई गुना बढ़ाता है।
• Bt कपास (2002) भारत में व्यावसायिक खेती के लिए स्वीकृत एकमात्र GM फ़सल है।
• MoEFCC के अंतर्गत आनुवंशिक अभियांत्रिकी मूल्यांकन समिति (GEAC) GM जीवों को छोड़ने की स्वीकृति देती है।
• Bt बैंगन पर 2010 में रोक लगी; GM सरसों (DMH-11) को 2022 में सशर्त पर्यावरणीय विमोचन की स्वीकृति मिली।
• DNA फ़िंगरप्रिंटिंग का प्रयोग न्यायालयिक मामलों और पितृत्व विवादों में होता है।
