सार

गुप्त काल शास्त्रीय संस्कृति और विज्ञान के लिए प्रसिद्ध है; पूर्व-मध्यकाल में क्षेत्रीय राज्य, विशेषकर कन्नौज के लिए, सत्ता की होड़ में रहे।

मुख्य बिंदु

  • गुप्त संवत् 319–320 ई. में चंद्रगुप्त प्रथम के समय शुरू हुआ।
  • समुद्रगुप्त की विजयें हरिषेण द्वारा रचित प्रयाग प्रशस्ति में दर्ज हैं।
  • चंद्रगुप्त द्वितीय (विक्रमादित्य) के शासन में फ़ाह्यान आए; कालिदास और आर्यभट इसी युग के हैं।
  • नालंदा की स्थापना कुमारगुप्त प्रथम के समय हुई।
  • हर्षवर्धन (606–647) के समय ह्वेनसांग आए; चालुक्य पुलकेशिन द्वितीय ने नर्मदा पर उन्हें हराया (रविकीर्ति का ऐहोल अभिलेख)।
  • कन्नौज के लिए त्रिपक्षीय संघर्ष पाल, प्रतिहार और राष्ट्रकूट के बीच हुआ।

व्याख्या

  • पल्लवों ने महाबलीपुरम में तट मंदिर और रथ मंदिर बनवाए।
  • चोलों का स्थानीय स्वशासन सशक्त था, जो उत्तरमेरूर अभिलेखों में दर्ज है।
  • राजेंद्र प्रथम चोल ने दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया में नौसैनिक अभियान भेजे।
  • हूण आक्रमणों ने गुप्त साम्राज्य को कमज़ोर किया।
  • आर्यभट ने आर्यभटीय लिखी।
